Great Cruise!!...now time to train and prepare

Thank you to the Pelletier family for letting me tag along on their awesome cruise!!!  Now it's time to get serious and train for a few more days before I ship my bike down ahead of me.  I plan on shipping the bike via Amtrak on Saturday or Sunday that way it is ready to be picked up when I fly in Tuesday morning.  Still working on the details of getting from the airport to the train station and then to St. Augustine.

I rode the bike for the first time in about 2 weeks today and went for almost 2 hours.  Felt pretty good!  I'm going to take it easy for the next few days, probably only 1-1 1/2 hour rides so I have fresh legs to start the trip.  Not much would be worse than starting sore and tired!

I installed the "pedal power" lights on the bike today and bought the cell phone adapter for my iphone so I can continuously charge it while pedaling.  It should be here by Monday and if it's not...I've got issues haha.

By the way, I fixed the link on the previous post that includes the map and some more detailed sections of the map so please check that out.

I want to give a shout out to the Salem Ave. Elementary 5th graders from Mrs. Carver's class!  Below is a picture of the hat I am choosing to bring with me.  I was hesitant to bring a team hat because I don't want to upset anyone I meet, but in my experience, wearing a Boston hat is a great conversation topic with random people when far away from Boston so I picked the one below.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  1. Hi Devin,

I just wanted to wish you good luck on your trip. My mother pointed out the ProJo article to me. As it happens, I am also soon heading out on a Southern Tier ride, tho' I will start from Austin, hopefully ending in San Diego. Also alone with no support. I've been amazed at how many people think it's crazy, but I'm very excited. I'll keep an eye out for you en route!

  3. Hi Devin.

Many blessings on your trip. I will follow you to see when we get close together. I think it would be a great RI story to have us meet in Texas or somewhere along the way with a picture of us cris crossing the country.
